STEM Coordinator - Callie Dollahon

Ms. Callie is a native of Tennessee, and moved to South Carolina to study Marine Science and Mathematics at the Honors College of the University of South Carolina.  While at Carolina, she was a EPA GRO Fellow, and spent time working with the Region 1 Environmental Protection Agency office in Boston, Massachusetts.  She moved to Charleston in 2007 to work as a naturalist at the Barrier Island Environmental Education Center on Johns Island.  She made the switch to formal education in 2008, enrolling in the College of Charleston’s Science and Math for Teachers Masters in Education program, and working for Charleston Day School as the After School Program Coordinator.  During graduate school she was a Knowles Science Teaching Fellow, participating in professional development around the country with a broad community of other science and math teachers who strive for quality education. For her Masters thesis, Callie spent time living in Copenhagen, Denmark, as a Fulbright Scholar, studying how Danish science teachers incorporate authentic, interdisciplinary and problem based learning in the classroom.  She moved to Mount Pleasant in 2012 to teach Marine Science at Wando High School.  At Wando she was the Marine Science curriculum leader, and ran the underwater ROV (robot) club as well as the National Ocean Science Quiz Bowl team.  She was part of a district 1:1 classroom technology pilot, and taught professional development for teachers on use of Google Apps for Education and Google Classroom as a learning platform.  She is a certified Rescue SCUBA diver and owned a small print graphic and embroidery business in high school.  In her free time she enjoys quilting, kayaking with her husband, and travel.  She is excited to be a part of ECMCS and looks forward to diving into new projects and ideas with the students and faculty.
