Upper Elementary Teacher
Mr. Zak grew up in NW Pennsylvania where he began a lifelong enjoyment of the outdoors, sports and history. He attended York College of Pennsylvania where he studied Russian History and realized his calling. Of course, the best plans aren’t always linear. Mr. Zak married the love of his life, Shawn and moved to Washington DC. There he was able to observe bureaucratic red tape, political infighting and budget bickering up close while working in a government agency. After these observations, he felt he was finally ready to work in a school. At Montessori of Mount Pleasant he was indoctrinated into the Montessori philosophy by a perfect example, Ms. Laura. Soaking in the experience, but yearning to work with older children, he jumped at the opportunity to work at East Cooper Montessori Charter School. He loves working with the children, surfing, hiking and long walks with his wife and dogs Nana and Eva on the beach. In 2014, released a board game called Legends of Adventure which he had worked on for years.

Ms. Beth was born and raised in the Bahamas, where her family still lives. She moved to Charleston in 1998 to attend the College of Charleston, where she earned a bachelors degrees in Fine Art and Communications. After a series of unfulfilling jobs, she went back to school to earn an MAT in Special Education, and found her role in the world as a teacher. She wanted to expand her teaching skills, so she added a MEd in Literacy. During this program, she observed in Ms. Virginia's classroom and fell in love with Montessori Charter School. She has loved learning and growing in Montessori for the past five years. Ms. Beth lives in North Charleston with her husband, Seth, three year old son, Thomas, infant daughter, Lainey, and fat English bulldog, Clay. She enjoys baking (and the subsequent eating of baked goods), reading, traveling, and volunteering for Camp Happy Days, though she hasn't had much time for pursuing many of those wonderful things since becoming a mama.
